Rattle from stock shifter ?
I have a stock shifter and the rattle is getting louder over time. When i first noticed the noise I thought is was the square shift gate emblem/demon key cover on the shifter but i removed it and the noise got louder. I pulled the shifter boot up and the noise is very loud under hard acceleration above 3500rpms. I have heard of this with aftermarket shifters but not the stocker. Any one else experience this?

I would go ahead and take the center console and the boot cover off the car and realign the shifter assy with the little pin that is in there. This is very easy to do, and in the end you will have made sure all of the fasteners are tight in there. Simply loosen the four mounting bolts for the shifter and loosen the collar/lock on the shifter linkage rod, verify that the shifter is pretty well centered in neutral and drop the alignment pin in the front of the shifter base where the holes are for it. Tighten everything. When you put everything back together a good idea would be to put some teflon tape on the threads for the shifter **** (don't be bashful, put a ton of the tape on, the **** will still thread on). If it still rattles after all that another trick might be to tape on about two ounces or so of stick on wheel weights to the shifter stalk. Sounds kind of sketchy I know, but this can dampen vibrations traveling through your shifter. Good luck. You can see I spent some time on my car with this issue and I have alleviated most of the noise (it only rattles just a little when in a higher gear going up hills and such)

Well if I go through the disassembly process of the console I may just add the hurst. I have been not put the hurst in yet do to the rattling/vibration issues but if i have it with the stocker I have nothing to lose.
