Had a big problem with serious hesitation and poor idle a few days ago. It happened suddenly. Car is not very driveable and Had to tow the car in this morning. When this happened, I also disocvered a small puddle of gas under the left fuel tank. I knew it had something to do with leaking from the fuel pump but wasnt sure on detatils.
Anyway, I had a Walbro fuel pump replaced 8 months ago but the most recent problem I am told is the casue of a cracked/leaking Fuel Pump Sending unit module which you cannot get separately. You have to order the GM pump.
So tell me if I have this right. I have to order a GM pump which comes with this sending unit module (which means that the Walbro pump did not come with the Sending unit module?). My mechanic will then take this new sending unit and connect it to the Walbro Pump replacing the old cracked sending unit module?
I don't know about the fuel pump issue but the fuel filter is on the left side next to the exhaust. If your car surges it could be a plugged up fuel filter. The biggest problem with changing it that you have to pull the left cat back exhaust to get to it.

thansk
the fuel filter isnt the problem though. Its this sending unit that comes with the stock pump. Apparently you cant get the sending unit separately.
Exactly... a buddy of mine who lives right across from me was attempting to change the left side sender/pump. Only to discover you have to pull the old failed part and supply the Chevy parts guy with that number. He was told that multiple part number exist for each year! The pump he got from the junkyard wouldn't fit!!!! He cleaned his contacts to stop the fuel gauge problem.
I had my fuel pump go out at 38000 miles and the total was $1300! Thank GOD I have an extended warranty!!! It surged and sputtered then it died! But the real rough idle was the first sign and the dealership didn't even find the problem.
maybe try ebay or one of the vette salvage parts place - you dont need use of the pump - just the sending unit - and most likely they will sell just that part to you.
