Default Squeaky C5 brakes?

I currently have a 2004 C5 convertible. It only has 5700km on it but the brakes have been squeaky for a long time.

I took it in the first time to the dealership and they said I just need to do some hard braking. So I did, maybe helped it for a week.

Took it in a few months later, and of course it was a cold moring and it wouldn't do it for the tech, so they said the same thing. The tech actually did a hard 80k to 0 brake to "brash" the brakes. Then sent me home. Said it was normal for some "glase' to be on the pads.

By the time I got home, it still sounds like an old truck when I lightly brake near a stop, very loud.

Is this a common thing? It is almost like the dealership doesn't believe me or think it is nothing, but it is loud.

Anyone else encounter this? Do I have to just keep taking it out and do some hard braking every couple of weeks?

Thanks

My 2004 C5 with about 5600 miles on it just started doing the same thing. Happens when I brake lightly, like the last few yards before the vehicle comes to a complete stop.

Its a little embarressing to pull up to the lights in an expensive sports car with the brakes squeeling like an old truck.

I am going to complain to the dealerhip this week. Ill let you know what they say.

the pads are "glazed" you have 2 choices...go out and burn the crap off lots of hard braking or pull the pads and clean them up with some sandpaper....but IMO at that point just install new pads

I also have a 2004 vert and I have been back to the dealer 3x now. I have 2500miles on her and she screams every time you lightly touch the brakes. I was told that was common with the C5. My 235 BMW vert has never made any sound when I applied the brakes.

Took my 04 in for the same thing. Dealer said it's normal for a C5 and was nothing they could do. With advice from some forum members, I bought some spray brake squeek stop and some brake squeek stop gel in little packets. Took off the front pads and sprayed the stop squeek on it. It's like spray glue. Then applied some of the stopsqueek gel and put them back on. Stopped the squeeling/squeeking for some time, but its kinda starting to do it again. When other people are around, I just stop harder than usual and they don't make any noise. lol

I have a 04 as well w/ 3K and mine were squeeking like crazy only on light breaking just as all of you have described, I tried the sand paper, worked for about a month, Tried the spray, worked about a month, Dealer wouldn't do anything so I went out bought new drilled and slotted rotors and did the work my self....No more Squeak.... (I even kept the stock pads on and no squeak). I took this route because I learned that other GM's in 04 had rotor issues (I also own a 04 impala) and figured it may be a trend. Oh if you go this route get rotors that are ZINC plated ....no rust..and look NICE
Good luck

Default Ceramic Pads

Replace your pads with ceramic pads. They are very low noise and they don't dust much either. This will probably stop your problem for good.

Go to the Baer Brake or Stopforce website.

Follow the proper pad bedding proceedure. This should help.
