I'd forget the Granatelli, if I were you. Spend your money somewhere else.

I had a fairly stock 2000 that I had the BBK on and it ran exactly the
same ETs at the track but my trap speeds were 1 mph higher. I think
that I might have gained a couple of horsepower up top at the expense
of loosing some torque down low. I also tried several different MAFs
that actually made me go slower so that was a waste of money too.
I would stick with the stock TB and MAF and spend your money some
where else like on a good dyno tune instead.

Probably not worth the time and effort for a homebrew unless you've got access to a nice machine shop but here is a link showing how and why the blade clearance is not affected.

Please pardon my ignorance, but what does porting do, and what would be the difference between a ported 78 mm TB and non-ported 90mm TB?

I'm thinking of going to the FAST intake manifold, which, I think, can take a 90mm TB.

Thanks,

Porting the 78 mmTB smoothes and increases the diameter of the inlet side. It does not increase the blade size (78mm) or the blade/closed seat area. Going from a 78 mm to 90 mm TB increases the cross sectional area by about 33 %.

Fast is available as 78 or 90 mm. I wouldn't waste my time with the 78mm - Go for the 90 mm.

Thanks...I've seen posts claiming 15 rwhp, per dyno, with the 90mm TB and Fast Manifold. Realistic or too good to be true?

Brian Dude - que pasa?

I felt a HUGE difference when I went to a West Coast Corvettes TB (i think it's the same as the Lingenfelter) - it was amazing. But I already had the BPP bottom breather air intake and Halltech huge air bridge. I think it was the final 'bottleneck' for the air flow. But yesterday I bought a Shaner (on a trip to Dallas to pick up parts). Somewhere here on the forum someone had pictures comparing the LPE with the Shaner and the difference is night and day...... there is NO DOUBT the shaner is the best..... you can tell just by looking at the huge big mouth that it flows some air!..... the difference in throttle response between my LPE TB and original was phenomenal - can wait to install the Shaner (didn't have time today)....and he can mod your original for cheap. I can loan you one of my spares if you decide to send yours off for modding......... Shaner lives in Arlington - got his number.......
craig

ps- and sorry if this counts as hikacking a thread - hope not!

and sure - if you want to spend big bux and go to a 90mm and more big bux for a FastX intake, it would get you more horsepower - no doubt. But for cheap and easy do it yourself HP, the Shaner TB is the way to go. ......... But your RedMachine is a daily driver and I don't THINK you go to the Tulsa Dragstrip very much.......... I'm putting mine on the silver daily driver....... it's not really being 'cheap' - call it the HP per dollar ratio! seeya

I installed the Mark Shaner unit and it gives you that nice clean response, as for the HP difference only a dyno will tell. I have read several posts on the Shaner TB and on C5's a 3-5 hp change seems to be the gain, depending on mods.
The change in the response is worth the money.
