For the last 4 months i have heard a "squeaking" coming from the brakes of my 2000 convertible. I have had the car fully inspected by the dealer and "fixed" twice now (all with factory parts). Neither they nor I can identify the problem. I have got all 4 break pads replaced at least once recently and yet I still hear a squeak. I have also heard that a buildup of "glazing" can cause the problem but even with aggressive breaking cannot seem to solve the problem.
>>>Has anyone else experienced this problem and more importantly has anyone fixed it?
Well I am sure you are having Brake problems, not BREAK problems?
But I have found most squeaks come from the side of the brake pads on most newwer cars. Put a little grease on the ears of the pads that run on the rails of the caliper and see if that helps.

Is it coming from all four corners or just one??
Is it definately a steady even squeel on light braking when coming to a stop??
The reason I ask is....I have a bad squeeking that I was sure was the left rear brakes. Happens on light/moderate braking. But is not the light annoying brake squeel sound....it is mcuh louder. I descovered that I could duplicate the sound by pulling on my seat belt restraint. There is a squeeky pully in there that moves and locks when you decellerate. Its going in to the dealer for this.

Howie,
How are you duplicating this problem? I have a persistent squeek that sounds like my rear brakes also..It has gotten better after a lot of hard driving, but it isn't completely gone yet..
The problem occurs only when coming to a complete stop but occurs with light and moderate braking. It seems to be coming from the rear corners. The dealer sells "anti-squeak" gel, but I am not sure if that is nothing more than a scam...but at this point anything is worth a shot.
From: Edmond, OK...One of the first rules of online forums: If you don't like what is said but can't refute it, attack the poster.
You can get the gel at any autoparts store. It's about 1.00 a pack and a pack should do 2 rotors. It's very easy to put on. When I did my front ones, it stopped the squeal for about 6 months, but it's now starting to squeal again. Guess it's time to re-apply the gel.

If it gets better with hard driving it my be your pads are getting bedded and noise decreases.
It could also be the wear indicators on you pads....do you know if they are severly worn?
The noise I get is a SQUEEKING not a SQUEELING and is much louder. I can duplicate it by pulling back and forth on the lower (lap) seat belt....and it SQUEEKS!!

The brakes look pretty good (on 11k on the car) and the noise has been going on for quite some time, maybe I should try the gel they discussed above.
