I installed dynamat and lux liner through out my 99 vert. It took 45 hours but the result was well worth it. Below 79, road noise with RFs is very acceptable and my AC will chill me out in Central Texas at 105 ambient even with a black softtop.
I know a lot of people say the Run Flats contribute to the noise but I did not find that to be the case. I've owned my C5 since new in 2002. I was disappointed with the noise from day 1. I replaced the factory tires with Pirelli P-Zero Neros at about 10,000 miles, and noticed zero reduction in the noise level. When the Pirelli's wore out I put on NITTO 555's. Again, no improvement.
I've vote for going for the insulation kit mentioned earlier as the best way to reduce the noise rather than changing out tires that might be perfectly good.
That must be one incredible 84 you have, because that's the first ever comment I've heard like that. I drove a 2 year old 84 way back when and I remember the experience well. It kept me from even looking at another Vette for years. Rattletrap is the expression that best describes my experience.

Excellent advice. And the 416 is one of my all time favorite big game cartridges.
I replaced the runflats with Kumho non-runflats and can now have a normal conversation in the cabin due to the noise reduction. Love them.
I have a hatchback C5 and have heard that if you fill the compartments in the back it will reduce noise even more. I'm going to get some foam blocks and cut them to shape and see if that's true.
I have a Z06 and put in the covers for the rear compartment, a rear carpet mat that covers the back, and a vertical divider to separate the "trunk" area. It is now much quieter. I plan on adding the insulation kit from Exotic Vette when I feel like pulling the entire interior out.
