How much torque should I give this thing? I've had problems with my 75-25 red top coming loose and clunking. Obviously not a good thing.
I have the group 78 battery hold down. I've given it a LOT of torque, almost feels like too much. What's a proper value? (Am I using the right hold down?)
A lot of folks miss that rear hold-down lip so the battery is not as ecure. Push down on the battery and shove it backwards toward the rear of the tray. It's a snug fit.
Also, here's a shot of the hold-down bracket I got from Optima.
You don't need a special hold-down clamp with the 75/25.
The stock clamp works fine. Make sure the rear of the battery is tucked under the lip, the stock clamp wedges the battery into the rear channel and effectively holds the battery in place.
The special Optima clamp bracket shown above was made for fitting the larger 34/78 battery. It shouldn't be needed on the 75/25.
Thanks for the tips guys. I kept fighting with it - went over to my friend's house frustrated as hell. He noticed it was sitting a little high in the back. Whoops. Didn't have it tucked under the rear lip.

Tom. Optima sent me the bracket for free and it gets a better bite than the stocker so I used it. The stocker worked fine for me as well. Here's a shot of it with my Red Top.
