Default Check engine light help

I guess if this goes in C5 Gen, please move it.

This is the code I am displaying:
P1415 AIR System bank 1-B

Which side is that (thinking passenger) and what should I be looking for? It has the "HC" following the code, so I know it is ongoing.

That is the code for the checkvalve on the left (driver) side manifold. It's probably sticking. For as cheap as they arejust replace it.

Questions from the uneducated, so please help me out....

I have read many posts that refer to codes and always thought that they came from third party code readers. I would like to understand where they are being read in a Vette (only got my first one, an 04Z a few months ago).

Do codes (beyond a SERVICE ENGINE SOON light) appear in the Vette instrument display or only on a code reader.

e.g. in

WrEcKeD1101 asked:

"This is the code I am displaying:

to which the answer was given by jers98vet as follows:

"That is the code for the checkvalve on the left (driver) side manifold. It's probably sticking. For as cheap as they arejust replace it."

Is this a case where WrEcKeD1101 would have read the codes which he mentioned on the Vette instrument display and did not have a code reader which gave the answer provided by jers98vet?

or

Did WrEcKeD1101 require a code reader to display the codes shown by him above?

and

Where did jers98vet obtain the answer to WrEcKeD1101's question?
a. a more sophisticated code reader
b. a service manual
c. personal experience
d. ??
e. ??

I assumed at some point that I would need a code reader. A new Innvoa Electronics Corp. (www.CanOBS2.com) Model 1003 was on sale at a reduced price for a limited time at a local auto store for $120.00 so I bought it. Is this the code reader to have for a C5 or are there better ones that would provide more information such as that provided by jers98vet above? The auto store will refund my money if I do not want to keep it. It is still in the original packing and has not been used.

Thanks in advance for the help.

You don't need an additional scanner to read your codes, here's the link to show you how to do it: DTC codes
