Thanks for the response. I guess I need more detail. It looks like the shift **** will need to be removed.. Is that the case? I've got the whole thing loose, but it won't move and it seems to be hung up on the shift boot/****.
I should say I have manual trans.. Don't know if the auto is layed out differently.
Well I got it out!! It's a lot easier than it looks. I got the "devil/demon key" out by clamping it with vice grips and hitting with a hammer. It took quite a bit of force to get it out of there on my 6+ year old Vette. All the rest is just jigsaw puzzle stuff!
Following SDVette, I also used vice grips. I locked onto the sides( driver and passenger) of the devil key with the vice grips. With my left hand I pulled up on the key gently wiggling it toward the front and back of the car while I gently tapped on the (passenger) side of the vice grips. I felt lke a Dentist yanking out a tooth with a pair of pliers.... but after 4 light taps the devil key popped out... no fuss, no muss, no damage to anything.
Second tip. If you have a convertible, the waterfall has to come out to get the center console out. remove 4 T-10 torx screws (2 on each side of the wterfall) 2 top and two bottom. Then lift the waterfall off the supporting brackets.
