Default LS7 Heads For LS6

Anyone looked over the LS7 heads yet? Seems they might be a good candidate for the LS6 engine. Anyone reviewed this possibility yet?

I wouldn't think they would be a good mate for a stock bore LS6.

isn't an LS7 a 7 liter and a LS6 a 6 liter ?? bit of a difference there.

They will not match up in any way. Intake ports are all different.

From what I've learned:

1. They require a big bore (4.125") engine
2. Compatible pistons will be needed to work with the 11 degree valve angle, so the engine will have to be rebalanced.
3. The LS7 intake will be required to match the intake ports.

Still to be determined: will LS1/LS6 headers work with LS7 heads?

My conclusion at this point is that compared with the Stage IV LS6 heads I'm currently running, a lot of financial pain for a max gain of maybe 50 RWHP.

Yes they would work, according to what SDPC told me.

Who is SDPC? The thought of LS7 heads and intake is sounding
like a possibility then. Throttle body? Is there a place we can check out specs on the new engine, maybe cam, pushrod length, cam journal diameter, head bolt patter, other tech stuff..?? Anyone know?

http://www.sdpc2000.com I think they are also a sponsor of this forum.

The LS7 intake uses the LS2 Throttle body. Not sure about other specs, but you might wanna check the LS2-LS7 section at ls1tech.com

It could be done, but would it be worth it based on the cost? First thing you would need would be a matching intake manifold. The intake ports on the LS7 heads are square port not cathedral port heads. Then as stated above they are cast to a different valve angle. The headers would work, but they may have a problem fitting in the engine well because they would be coming off the engine at a different angle due to the head angle. Sure you could get custom headers, but again you would have to pay. You might be better off just buying an LS7 crate motor. I heard they will be selling for ~$13,000. Not outrageous considering what you have. But then there would be computer compatibility issues... I think it may get worked out in the future, but I sure don't have enough money to be one of the first guinea pigs.
