It's finally here...

I've noted several very informative posts related to performance on this forum. I am wondering if anyone has put much attention to improving the (city) gas mileage of the C5. I know that this may be contrary to the performance issue, but the last fill-up cost upwards of $56.00. That's $200/month!
I love driving this car; gotta have my cake and eat it too.
sorry- but I didn't buy it to be economical....that's what a 4 banger is for...premium gas is $2.90 here in South Florida (well, the good gas stations) and to be honest, I get 26 to 28 MPG on the highway in my 97 Automatic ( a lot of people get more with a 6sp) that ain't too shabby for a performance car if you ask me.
=>off to build my hydrogen fuel cell<=
My boat holds 190 gal of 92 oct. I just filled it up and it was over $400. I should be good for another weekend. Needless to say I boat alot less now and drive my Vette more.

Thats why I am going to reinstall my 2.73's!!
FWIW

I noted several of the responses above where a member tried to appear unconcerned about the ever rising cost of gas. Do you think the LS1 would have ever emerged if GM's engineers didn't think that efficiency is almost as important as power? After all, what was wrong with the old 454 CID the could propel your Vette from gas station to gas station quicker than you could reach for your pocketbook? They were fast too!!!
People that don't look ahead will be the first to park their Vettes when the going gets tough! I don't intend to; so for me, there is no shame in looking for a solution to a concern that is here today. That same concern is already knocking at your door! If I was a little smarter, I would have started this search in January (gas was $2.65 then).
In the meantime, it looks like when $3.35 hits, I will use my Tercel more during the week and fire up the Vette on the weekends.
...or maybe not!

Haha I feel your pain. Try twin 160's. Lasts a bit longer but GOD DAMN does it suck to fill up. Especially on the water. I haven't been fishing much lately lol...

If someone can afford a vette, generally a change in the price of gas, while not welcome, is not going to hurt their pocketbook as much as someone with less money.

Unfortunately, I can't claim to have unlimited funds, although I'd love to.
I am one Corvette owner that does have a budget to work (or in this case, play) with.
I don't know what others have purchased their cars for, but my '99 cost thousands less than a new Toyota! I purchased it last December for $20K plus $2K for shipping! You can't touch a Toyota or Nissan for less than $30K around here. Even a Scion is at $19K! For the money they pay, you'd think others will look at their expensive yachts instead of the old '99.
NOT EVEN! There's only 5 C5s on island; a major WOW factor amongst all the rice out here!
By the way, if anyone is in the market for a land yacht, consider a shopping trip to Guam! There's a bunch of Lexus and Infinity land yachts, as well as the regular Toyota and Nissan versions, running around with for sale signs!
Those boys are finding out that their bottomless pocketbooks do infact have a bottom!I suspect that there are more guys out there that will just park their cars in silence. Not me! I want to drive mine! No shame in asking for advice.
Anyway, time for a fill-up! Rock on!
I didn't mean to say you or anyone else was working with unlimited funds... just that if you can afford a vette gas most likely isn't a huge percent of your monthly budged like someone living near the poverty line. High gas prices affect the poor more.
