I know people who have paid 500 dollars just to remove them...I know people who have added the aci rear brake vents and the labor alone was 1500 dollars ( remove the old rockers and install the aci rockers. )
It isnt an easy job.
I've done some on one of my old C5's and let me tell ya, your in for some good times !
You'll need a heat gun, a hammer, a long handle scapper, a short scapper, and lots of time.
Don't forget to wear gloves and a long sleeve shirt.
Even I drew the line at the rocker panels! I wouldn't touch them with a 10 foot scraper!
If you must... If I was you I would assume they will be complete junk when your done and you will need complete new rockers. Also do you realize that the rocker panels wrap (and glued) from the bottom of the frame under the car around and on to the top of the frame inside the door and it is all one piece and glued all the way up the back inside of the door where the fenders bolt too? Plus it goes under the front part of the inside of the door and is glue and pop riveted there as well so you will probably damage that part as well.
I just have to ask...why did you strip down your vette? This picture should win a prize for being the most shocking picture of the month!
Cheers
John
I bought it salvaged. Someone spun it out and shortened the rear around 18" less than stock. The top and everything behind the doors had to be removed for the repairs, so I decided to paint the entire car so I pulled it all down. Perfect time to mod everything too! Nothing in the way of anything! It takes less than 15 minutes to pull the rear diff! But even down this far I didn't touch the rockers. I basically bagged the car with just the rockers exposed and put the car in the paint booth and sprayed the rockers. All other parts were painted off the car.
Heat gun, air hammer with chisel, large chisel+5lb sledge hammer, lots of sweating and cursing. It can be done, but the rocker will be trashed, new ones are not expensive though. There is glue everywhere that has to be broken/melted. Bottom, top, area around the door latch etc.
