Default Anyone Removed Dashpad??

I have to replace the emergency flasher, in addition to having the warm air/cold air syndrome with the HVAC. I have had the console and guage cluster out previously so I'm not concerned about getting that far. Just wondered if there were any hidden surprises removing the top piece. Like for instance, do you need to do anything special to prevent the Pass Air Bag from grenading and scaring the crap out of me? Figured somebody has some history with this....?

Not too bad. Use Josh's HUD retrofit web page to see how the dash pad comes off. Click on the pics to enlarge.

I've changed my flasher unit without having to remove the dashpad. This is supposed to be time consuming, which is why the dealer charges a lot of labor for this. To get at the flasher unit, which mounts the emergency button, the center console cover/radio & heater control facia has to be removed. Two screws in front mount the heater/AC conrol and two mount the radio. When removed, the units still stay there because they're stuck by wax or dried oil. Just pry them loose with a flat blade screwdriver and they will drop down and forward to provide access to the flasher unit. Pull straight off the emergency button. The next trick is to use a large flat bladed screwdriver and hammer to pop the spring clip on one side of the flasher. A little wiggeling and the clip on the other side comes loose. Now, all you have to do is push the flasher unit back into the dash so it clears the small "pocket" it is in and comes forward, down and out. The wire plug can be disconnected and the new flasher plugged in. Re-assembly starts with maneuvering the flasher back into its pocket and the front up to its rectangular mounting hole. This requires some dexterity with your fingers and help from a couple long screwdrivers. Have bandaids and antiseptic handy. Once the front of the flasher unit is properly positioned, you have to push it from the back with a couple fingers so the spring clips engage. Now, re-assemble everything else and you're done.
