Can anyone receommed who has the best price on AutoTap software. Additionally, if anyone can receommend which version to purchase, I am a little confused when I read the AutoTap web site.
If you want, I'll sell you the AutoTap cable for $100, and you can download the software from their website. For an extra $25, I'll toss in the Keyspan USB to serial adapter.
Let me know if you're interested. Will save you a bundle. As for what version? I still use the DOS version on a REAL old laptop. Works best for me.
Here is a stupid question, Ok maybe a couple of them. Do you know if they charge for the software and also if the cables are universal? I want to get the EFIPro with Bi directional controls. Is there a number on the cable or anything that I could ask AutoTap about?
I'm not sure on the universalness, but the number on the cable is AT1.
I use it to scan/reset codes, and monitor all the sensors for N2O. The software version I use is 'before' they started limiting what you could do with certain versions, so EVERYTHING is open for any ODBII Model car. Not restricted to GM only.
The cable is the key - get the GM version. The software is free for download from their website. The latest Windows version sort of works ok - the DOS version was more bullet proof, but no longer supported (I think). If you buy a newer cable second-hand, make sure you get the authorization code for it; otherwise it will not work with the software you download.

Mine has none of these issues... IMHO, the DOS version is best. I also have copies of this software.
One of the drawback to Autotap is its slow record speed. The DOS version was better than the Windows version but they both only recorded 10 frames/sec. HPTuners had the same problems when first came out with a scanner but by ver 1.5, I believe, they were up to 40 frames/sec. EFLive was a better scan software years ago because it would work at 20/secnd moved quickly to 40/sec. Ease, being and OEM software was always available at 40 frames/sec. The reason you need the higher speeds is when you are measuring several pids. At the lower scan rates and running several pids, you can miss vital info and get invalid results. If I was you and only wanted scan info I would look for used EFILive or Ease software and cables. Especially the bidirectional cables.
