The little button on your console, push it down and hold it till your dash says comp mode, the car needs to be warmed up

But you need active handling to get comp mode.

Should you run in Comp mode all the time?

Bottom line is...

If you press the active handling button on the center console once it will turn off traction control and active handling. If you hold the active handling button down for about 3 seconds the car is put in "competitive driving". The display under the speedometer will state this. This mode disables traction control but leaves the active handling on.

My car does not have to be warmed up and it can be engaged while driving (2004 A4).

Late 1998 through 2000 had Generation I Active Handling. Holding the button down for about 4-5 seconds will result in Competitive Driving being displayed on the DIC. What this means is that Traction control has been disengaged but Active Handling has remained in effect. With Generation I Active Handling, the button can be pressed before coming to a stop, but at the moment of engagement (about 5 seconds, or so) of Competitive Driving, the car must be stopped. Among some other things, Generation I will not allow power braking with Traction Control turned on, either with or without Active Handling engaged (Competitive Driving). During these years Active Handling was a extra-cost option.
Beginning in 2001 and continuing through 2004, Generation II Active Handling was installed on the C5 And Z06 as standard equipment. In other words, they all had it. Generation II is a less-intrusive system that waits a tad longer to insert itself. Generation II Active Handling will allow the Competitive Driving mode to be initiated while the car is moving. It will also allow you to power brake your with Traction Control engaged.

QUESTION, Gen 1 won't allow power braking with the traction control on. In competitive mode, isn't traction control off? Got me a little confused...........
