Default painted caliper

Guys,
I power coat my caliper last winter and it cost me a bunch of work and money.
Over the week-end I was with my friends who own Ferraris (maranello, Modena, Spider, Testarossa, F40).
They use a german paint that hold 950 degres F.
It is a bi-component paint that over value what is on the market so far.
all of them used this paint and it's look awsome and cost a quater of power caoted paint. You also do not have to remove the caliper and dissasemble them.

Hi,

here in Germany we either use Dupli Color or Folia Tec paint. Both are bi-component products. I used Folia Tec and didn't have to disassemble the calipers but had to remove them to get a good
result. Paint has and keeps a nice gloss and holds temps up to 600 F . Costs were about 35 $ total. Dupli Color is available in the States, if I remember correct I've seen it at an Auto Zone outlet once.

regards

Markus

Not a very good masking job. I thought Ferrari guys just throw away the old calipers instead of paint/powdercoat!

For street of highway driving that may be great, but if you track your car 600F is not really going to hold up.

Not uncomman for brake pads to get 1200-1400* F under extreem repeated braking. Those nice ORANGE glowing iron rotors.

Those calipers could get into the 900*+ Plus range.

this is correct 600F is not enough.
this is why this product holding 950F is great.
I don't know what temperature hold a power coated paint but mine are already burned and turn a little black close to the pads.
if someone is interested I can try to find the reference and where to obtain it.

I bet they use Folia Tec, just like us. It's a German bi-component paint that you don't need to remove the caliper for. Guys here have used it for years.

I used the VHT Brake Caliper and Rotor Paint. It cost $7/can and you can get all four calipers with two cans. I did my brothers first and they held up great at VIR in June. No discoloration or pealing, they did get hot, because both back boots and one front boot were completely melted. The can states its good for 1100 degrees.

Notice, I take more time than the Ferrari Guys!

Thank you for both nice comments! The new changes to your car look great, I really like the rear bumper change!

I have to change them usually after a few events due to melted boots, so it makes it nice to have a spare set so I can add some bling to them for the street.

Tom, are you aware of any different boots that the T1 guys run that tolerate the heat better?..... Silicone?

What boots? Most of the guys dont bother using them as they melt so fast. SS pistion help. and just keeping them clean. Rember the T1 guys go over there cars with fine tooth combes before and after each event.

I use Titanium heat shield and I still burn the boots.
I agree. I installed SS piston and remove the boot as they just last one track event.
For your info on my last event I melted the cap of the air valve !!!
