Default Code 1288 Help Please

I have researched this code, checked the position switch voltage with a meter as covered in the threads and have found I am 90 degrees out of position.( 4.9 volts @ TDC) Do I need to re-align the stereing wheel to correct this?
I realize this will require re-alignment of the wheels to match the new steering wheel position.

History: I get the code when turning to the right at slow speed into driveways. From the information I have gathered this is due to the difference in the analog signals is too great since my benchmark voltage is 4.9 volts( should be 2.5 volts). I vaguely remember the tech at the alignment shop telling me he had to straighten out my steering wheel position (quite some time ago) so maybe that is what got the wheel out of position.
Any help or clarification would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I had to do that to mine also. Make sure the front tires are straight and take off the steering shaft. Then just rotate the steering wheel till you have the correct voltage. Is it 2.4, I cant remember for sure, Then hook up the steering shaft and your done.Just remember spin the wheel too many times around in one direction because it can break the air bag wires. It's probably only off one turn either way.

Took the car in. The dealer replaced the steering wheel position sensor.
The service manager called the factory tech, and was told the sensor is hard to test. Even if it shows good it may not be. The tech authorized the replacement since there has been a number of the same problems, Every thing is good so far.
