After reading all the CF battery threads, I decided to try an Exide orbital as the replacement for my original pooped-out '02 Delco. A bit of Googling turned up this unlikely sounding source:
Turns out they have a will-call place a few miles from my house, so along with a price that's almost $40 below Autozone, I'm not paying any shipping or sales tax.
No affiliation, etc, just passing along a good price.

yep. I was just about to buy my first Optima when all of a sudden there were some reported failures. They may have been isolated but I decided to wait a bit. Then a forum member mentioned the Exide Orbital. Found out that my local Sams Club sold them. They had 3 Orbital models; 2 car and 1 marine. I measured... and both of the car models would fit. Wasn't so certain about the Marine size.
And the one I purchased was about $22 less than the Optima.
It's nice having a choice with this specific battery technology.
I too bought an Exide Champion XLT from SAM's Club about 2 years ago. I got the smaller battery, DT35, 690 CCA, 850 CA, 36 month free replacement and jump start, 108 months warranty. No problems.
A friend of mine got the DT34, it fit fine, 770 CCA, 1000 CA
Mike Mercury... I tried to buy an Orbital locally at Sam's. they told me they could not get it...
Any chance you could PM me the part number or Sam's stock number?
thanks
Rich
I also called the local Sam's and was told they don't carry them. I was in the store several days later and saw two on the rack. They has a 2003 manufacture date, so apparently they were old stock and I decided not to buy.. Just for kicks ,I asked the guy in the auto section if those two batteries were the glass mat type and he said-no they are plastic??

The Orbital is a great battery. I've been running one for four years now and it's still going strong. During the winter, it goes on a maintainer. I put the original Delco in my pontoon when I installed the Orbital. Four months later, the Delco died. Sure glad I changed.

I'll find the receipt and look for a SKU number.
When I purchased mine, Sams had a few ones dated mid 2003, but the one I found one dated late 2004.
