Default Can the air pump be removed?

I bought a 99 that was hooked to a wrecker on the front skid (smart huh). Well the front skid was no longer there and the air pump is also gone. Could the air pump just be deleted and if so what all do I take off the car? I have O2 sims on there it looks like and I think the air pump just pushes air for emmisions.

tow hacks, this skid bar is also the radiator/cond. support, i assume you've replaced the skid frame; it's common to delete the AIR sys completely, it can be tuned out otherwise you'll get a ck eng light w/ the p0410 code, the f-body guys do it all the time in ls1tech.com

Yep replaced the skid at the tune of 250.00 from GM for a hunk of tin. Then GM dont even put the threaded inserts in the holes you have to buy them also. Well I guess I will yank it out and tape up the connector. Alot cheaper then buying one from what I seen. Thanks

you need to check if your headers have the air tubes because the air pump is connected to them if you take out the air pump and you have the headers made for the air tubes you will have a leek. someting you need to take into considaration unless you are getting new headers

In addition to blocking off the headers you also need to edit out the air pump codes in the PCM.

You'll also save a few # and clean up the engine compartment. Plug swaps will be even easier.

(please excuse the dirt!)

That does not compute.. How long ago did you remove the system? Might not show until winter, or someone got to your PCM already.. Possibilities?

Block off plates; heck just make your own.. Use the stock part as a template, (cut them with a hack saw if you have to) out of some aluminum stock you can buy at Lowes.

OK got all the stuff out now and waiting on my programer to clear the codes. I just cut the metal line off the exhaust tube plate welded it shut and ground it smooth. A little high temp black paint and it looks like it was always there. Thanks all for the help.

Any of you guys removing the AIR system interested in selling the piping? I need it for a '97-'00 car (I believe '01 is when the location switched and my headers are for the earlier years).

Thanks.
