i have a 2001 6sp and just got code po420 again. car is completly stock and this code came up about 1 month ago. i cleared the code and drove. code came up again today. bad converter or o2 sensor? where are these sensors and can i swap from side to side without breaking the o2 sensor ( i have bad luck with rusted exhaust parts). does the emmissions warranty last beyond the 36 mo time frame?
I can't help with the tech, but I just did some warranty research; the emmissions warranty is only 2/24 vs the 3/36 for most other things. On an '01 it is long gone.

You need to check out the left side since its reporting a left CAT issue.
It could be a exhaust leak effecting the O2s making it then look like a CAT issue. Also could be a O2 problem, after about 30,000 miles they start to degrade and function slower.
ALL parts that are required by EPA for smog such as the PCM, CAT, 02 have to meet the 7 year warranty so if its a smog part do not let dealer screw you over.
