Considering 01 w/ 6 spd
I am looking at an 01 coupe w/6 spd. 12,300 miles. I have heard that the 01's have a ring problem, and use oil. Can someone enlighten me on this. Also what is the HP on the 01's.
I am from the C4 section and know nothing about the C5's.

The 01's were rated at 350 bhp. As for the oil, I have heard many talk about it on this forum. Many have had issues and many have had no problems. I have an 02 and haven't had any issues (knock on wood).

350 HP is the rating.
Many have commented on a oil consumption problem with 01's produced early in the model year. My '01 was built in august '00 and has 86,500 miles. It doe snot use any oil between oil changes.
So I can't comment on how prevalent the issue may be.
perhaps a search under oil consumption may turn up something.

If the car had oil consumption issues, it would burn about a quart of
oil every 4-500 miles. Most cars that were affected by this were re-rung under factory warranty.
Slight oil consuption on LS-1's are normal.
I also have an 01 6-speed with no problems.
