I am getting conflicting info on this. Gene at FredBeans Pontiac/GMC says yes. Some members here say No, that an LS2 flywheel needed. I've been lead to believe that LS1 and LS2 flywheels are compatible, therefore, either should work with the new LS7 clutch?.Gotta now fast. Thanks.
I have read and seen pictures that show that the LS7 flywheel has a larger friction area machined into it for increased disc contact. Looks like the setup with the LS7 flywheel as GM usually sells them is a good, cheap solution.
From what I have read, not a stock LS1/LS6 flywheel... The difference is that the LS2/LS7 flywheel has raised mounting points. So it will bolt up to the stock LS1/LS6 flywheel, but the PP wont be as close to the surface and disc wont be contacting the surface of the flywheel.
"The LS7 pressure plate has a self adjusting feature that might be the reason for the gappage he is seeing. There are toothed fingers on the top surface that all need to have at least one tooth showing to be good. Tell him to not fiddle with the autoadjusters because if any of the fingers do not show at least one tooth, it is no good. Is he also using a LS7 clutch plate??? I do believe that the flywheels are interchangable. I will check with the LS7 DRE and ask him tomorrow."

There the same slots all the way around the pressure plate. In there are the teeth I spoke of. From the picture, I see that they are all exposing more than one tooth.
I discussed the gap problem with the other builders and we all agree that the only way that could happen is if he installed the clutch plate backwards. The plate is marked "flywheel side". Have him check that. Other than that, it is supposed to fit."
Do you know who said "no"? There are a bunch of people in the other forum trying to find out who said that it is not working. It will be good to know who tried this configuration and some specs about the issue.

Thanks for your help.

Gene@fredbean told me in a emal conversation we had a few days ago that an LS2/7 flywheel will be needed with the LS7 clutch.
I noticed some sad faces...I am assuming this is because some people are waiting to get the results.
I got the parts 2 days ago. As soon as Robert and I can get together, he will assess if we can install this set up and I will let you know. It may still take 1-2 weeks but as soon as we know, we will come back and put the results right here.
Robert and I checked the parts today. We have not found a way to make the LS7 clutch work with an LS1 Fidanza Aluminum flywheel.
Robert can share additional details but I am going to get an LS2 flywheel.
Best regards,

Like Miguel said, I dont see a logical way to make the LS7 pp & disc work with an LS1 flywheel. On the LS7 pp, the pp/shoe sticks out past the bolt face of the hat by about 2cm, necessitating a flywheel that has raised bolt bosses on the outer perimeter. So, unless there is a way to properly set the shoe back into the hat, it wont work. If anyone out there got this setup to work properly without issues, chime in.
