I am having a strange problem with my 99 Coupe. I drive along and go to use turn signals and they do not work. But if I turn on the hazards for a short time and shut them off, then the turn signals work. I am headed out on a trip after work and would like for them to work. My first guess is a short in the turn signal lever; however, I thought I would see if anyone else has had a similar situation.

Had the same thing happen on a 00 coupe that we had. I have found that the hazard switch is the culprit. The bummer is that the dash pad has to be removed to get to it. Hope this Helps
You can gain access to replace the hazzard switch by removing the console cover and dropping the radio and heater/ac controls. Look for this procedure in tech tps. Once the front of the hazzard swith is exposed, you wack one side with a large screwdriver and hammer. This pops the plastic spring retainer on that side so you can loosen the other side and push it all the way in so that it drops out through the radio opening. Plug in the new $40 unit and put it in place. This requires some dexterity with your fingers and some long screwdrivers to push the new unit around in order to get it lined up. Have some bandaids and antiseptic handy.
I have replaced the hazard switch about 3 months ago. Mine got to where it would not stay latched. I have found it is easier to remove the gage cluster and remove the switch that way instead of removing radio/HVAC. As the hazard switch was not cheap, I hate to think that is it as there is no warranty on electrical parts. I will have 2 1/2 hours of my drive to see what is going on.
There's been a rumor on this forum that GM issued a recall to replace the same hazzard/turn signal switch used in other cars where it is much easier to change it out.
As a former Triumph owner, I was disappointed to see "Made in UK" on the box the new flasher switch came in. Sort of explains the high rate of failure.
My 2000 Coupe was giving me the same problems. It started off and on, and got worse as time went by. When I turned on the signal, it would buzz constantly and the light stayed on. If I turned on the hazard and turned it off, it would work again for a short time. This was my solution: The hazard switch is also the main relay for the turn signals, so when it started going bad, the signals did as well. I replaced the hazard relay by myself, but it REALLY wasn't easy (About $40 for the part). I am not sure what the dealership would charge for doing this, but if I had it to do over again, I would just pay them to do it for me. My hands were cut up for days. I hope this helps. I haven't had one single problem with mine since I replaced this part.
i just hit the hazards till the blinkers work again.a couple of shots to the switch get the blinkers going.new switch is in the back waiting to be installed!thru the middle console!the dealer will take the whole dash apart and charge 600 friggin dollars!
