Default Tire sensor training- problem & solution

Howdy folks, I have followed the instructions on this fine forum to reset the tire sensors- But, it will only get to "Tire Training" screen and go no further.

Usually, once it says Tire Training, you are supposed to hold down the Reset button and then it will ask you to magnet the tires one by one. No such luck- it also won't let me train the fobs- it gets to the "FOB Training" screen but that is it.

This problem, coupled with the Traction/ABS/Active Handling computer being out, I have a plethora of codes popping up on the DIC every time I start the car!

Like to get rid of some!

Ideas?

I hope this will help.

1) Turn ignition on 2) Press "Reset" button in order to clear any IPC display warning messages 3) Press and release the "Options" button on the DIC to scroll through the display options until the IPC display is blank 4) Press and hold the DIC "Reset" button for 3 seconds 5) Press the "Options" button again until TIRE TRAINING message appears 6) Press "Reset" button until the IPC "Learn L Front Tire" message appears in order to begin the programming 7) Install the J41760 Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) System Programming Tool (large magnet will do) over the left front valve stem 8) The horn will sound, indicating the left front TPM sensor is programmed (if this takes more than 15 seconds, pull magnet back and try again, it will give you three tries. Then you must start over) 9) When the horn sounds, proceed to program the next TPM sensor in the following order as directed by the IPC messages: -Learn R Front Tire -Learn R Rear Tire -Learn L Rear Tire Programming can be canceled by turning ignition off, waiting 2 minutes with no sensors being learned, finishing all 4 wheels or through the DIC. If the programming is canceled with less than 4 sensors learned, it will only accept the codes programmed up to that point.

Default Sensor training

Once you get out of the car and hold that magnet to the LF stem and get you first horn beep, just keep going around the car clockwise to each stem and wait for each beep (no need to go back and check the message to see which tire is next as long as you get the beep). First few times I tried it I didn't get the first one to beep - magnet too weak. Ran out and got a strong one and all was well first try after that.
Good luck.

I have followed the instructions- my problem comes when I hold the reset button (#6) on "Tire Training" and it is then supposed to ask you to "Learn LF Tire"

I hold down the reset button and it never gets past the "Tire Training" message. I held it down for 30 seconds, I just pushed it, I did every combination I could think of.

Being very new to corvettes, I am assuming IPC is the DIC screen- right?

Also, I am having the dreaded traction control/abs/active handling code too- wonder if that is messing with it? That would not make sense, but you never know...

How old is the car battery?
If the battery is weak or not fully charged it can cause messages on your DIC and can prevent you from programming the sensors.

One more thought, what year is it and how long have you had it?
If you bought it used it's possible the previous owner had the tire training "turned off" and/or removed the sensors.

Battery is a brand new one- the problem is that I had it out of the car for a week, and it forgot that it is a corvette- key fob dead, tire sensors not registering.

It's an 01, and the sensors worked fine until I left the battery out when installing the new insulation and the stereo bits.

I've had it for a month and a half, and it keeps giving me new problems all the time.... not happy reassurance for a mustang convert...

thanks!

Hunter,
I'm sure one of the electrical gurus will jump in and help you out.
It may have something to do with the stereo work you did.
You may have some bad ground connections.
You say it's giving you new problems all the time, you may have a water leak or stopped up drain that is getting your electronics wet.
Good Luck and keep us posted.

Hunter.

My first guess was a weak 12 VDC battery!! You also need to remove the battery terminals, clean both with a wire brush, spray them out with WD-40 and torque the terminals on to 11 ft/lbs using a torque wrench.

As for the EBTCM, that can be a VERY expensive repair! I recommend checking the grounds first! The grounds for that systen are CRITICAL!
I would start with all of the underhood grounds! Chassis ground g-101 is the ground for the EBTCM and the one next to the battery would address the FOB/TPS issue.

Here is a link to my ground cleaning post.

See if that helps.

Right- as a new corvette owner, I figured it out. Something a little (lot) simple. The transceiver/antenna for the tires and keyfob was disconnected by one of my monkeys helping me with the insulation install. Thanks to one of Bill's other posts, I figured this out.

Things to note for other noobs:
-listen to your DIC- don't be stupid, research all codes first- one code can cause another. I didn't research the RFA code- it said no communication. I am usually smarter than this- moment of stupid.

symptoms:
-when the antenna/transceiver is disconnected, the DIC will show "service tire monitoring system".
-it will also show the "service vehicle soon" message
-the key fobs won't work, nor the tire sensors
-when you follow the steps to reprogram the fob or the tire sensors, it will get all the way to the last step before using the magnet (or pressing the lock/unlock buttons at the same time)- when you hold down the reset button it does nothing- no message, nadda.

Thanks everyone, now for the abs/traction control/active handling ground cleaning and steering wheel sensor fiddlin'...
