is there anything special i have to do in removing the spark plug wire from the plug? there is some type of round metal shield around the plug that is lose but when i pull on the wire it seems very tight. i don't want to pull on something that has a release of some kind that i don't know about.
i've got my eight plugs and am ready to replace. if all i need to do is pull the wire harder, please let me know - i just don't want to break something i shouldn't.

Never grab the wire, grab the boot itself as low as you can, slight twist.
Reuse the heat sheilds. Coat the inside of the plugwire boot with die electric grease.
Also, you are going to need an extension and a 90 degree "knuckle" get get the ones on the back driver's side. Save yourself 1/2 hour fighting with the plugs and go to sears and pick one up. IMHO
I removed and replaced mine with nothing more than a socket, extension, standard swivel and a spark plug wire removal tool and a flat blade screw driver to remove some of the clamps, hoses etc that make #7 so difficult.Took less than 2 hours working at a very leisurely pace.
One thing there is some discussion about is how to treat the threads on the new plugs. Some use a small amount of anti-seize but GM recommends only a drop of motor oil. You choose.
I did mine last winter and it was easy, but I have small hands.
