Default Lower Temp Therostat ?

Any ideas about using a lower temp therostat 160 or 170 ? i live in Southern California and the few times that I been caught in traffic in the heat 230 doesn't look very good. I know they are designed for it, but why abuse the motor.

I've heard that you have to change the fan speed. Does this sound right?

I put a 160 in my head and cam car and it helped out alot. The car needs to be programed or tuned for the fans to come on early for proper use.

Thanks for the info - I talked to quite a few people about this and they swear by it.

Just installing the lower thermostat won't make a lot of difference in how hot the car runs. It will make your freeway temps cooler, but around town, when idling, the temp will still creep up to where they are now.

But, the lower Tstat will allow you to turn your fan setpoints lower. THIS is what will keep your car running cooler around town in traffic.

If you adjust the fan setpoints too low w/o installing the Tstat, they will be fighting each other (Tstat closes while fans still run), and the net effect is your fans will never shut off. This is the reason both should be done together.

You made this way too simple to understand, please retract and rewrite so we can have some disagreements on this..........
