I'm in need of a new clutch, and was wanting to know what the CF crew recomends. I'm putting down ~410 rwhp and will be getting 4:10's also installed at the same time....so with that info what clutch would you recomend (preferably one that won't chatter)?
I just picked up my car after putting in a new Cartek clutch ( and rebuilt tranny ) and so far it's great. Stock pedal pressure, no chatter and it's good for way more power than you have...or me It also comes with an adjustable master

As you see, you'll get 67 different answers ALL saying their clutch is the best. You are by no means high enough in rwhp to merit an expensive/aftermarket clutch. I would stick with a Z06 or C6 Z06 clutch. Both of which will more than cover any abuse you can put to it with your level of power.
When you get into aftermarket, you get into chatter, balance issues, heavy foot, hard engagement, etc etc etc. The only time you want to go outside of OEM is when you have to..

I couldn't disagree more regarding an earlier Z06 clutch. The C6er May be an exception, provided they interface properly with LS1 applications.
I'm making his same power and at 8k miles, and maybe 6 passes at the track (2.0 60's on run craps) my clutch was useless. I drive aggressively but do not romp on her.
The stock clutch was NOT designed to handle 100+ or more horsepower over stock. I think you'd be hard pressed to have a qualified GM service rep tell you differently. In addition, I've read a good number of Forum members over the last year that have burnt up their Z06 clutches with cam only type power.
I agree with the dependability problems though. I've been using the Cartek clutch for about 12k miles now and a good 20 1/4 mile passes on DR's and it is still holding very strong with ZERO chatter and/or slippage.
I've also heard excellent reviews about the Aussie clutch although it's a shiny penny.
have Ram clutch duel friction, some chatter, aviod stopand go traffic, had issues with getting into gear for 3000 mi till wore clutch down enough to get full throw on fingers, Ram didnt tell me that I needed shims which I didnt need, or tell me that I needed a adj slave either. seems to finaly work fine now other than being a little notchy still. I would make sure you know what your getting into with a race clutch over a organic, drag racing with Drag radials a stock setup will not last long though.
i just recently pulled out my stage 4 spec ceramic due to the fact it had lots of miles on it and i assumed the clutch was toast since something just wasnt right with my car. come to find out it was a trashed torque tube bushing.
The stage 4 spec ceramic with ~3 years of service +50,000 miles of often full throttle blasts still has like new amount of meat on it (compared to the new one that i bought and didnt need). I could not be more pleased with the durability of this clutch, it continues to stump me how worn it isnt! Since i have already bought a new clutch though (stage 3 spec), i'm going to go ahead and install it. I have debated on sticking the stage 4 back in, but i suppose i will give the stage 3 a chance and see if it is a little more "driver friendly". The stage 4 can be a headache due to its very stiff pedal feel, quick engagement and occasional sqeal due to the ceramic. But if you want a clutch that will last, the stage 4 has proven to amaze me.

If you smoked a Z06 Clutch in an LS1 with roughy 60 more RWHP than a Z06 then I'm sorry to say it was either already bad from the factory or just plain old user error.

Well, If you look at my sig you will see that I have 17 GM service techs that work for me, plus I am VERY close friends with our area service rep, and I have had MANY conversations with him regarding this type of stuff.
You start to push the limits of a Z06 clutch in the upper 400's rwhp (460-475) Ask ANY tuner shop on this forum if a Z06 clutch will very easily hold 410RWHP. And I guarantee you they will tell you yes. If not, I'll eat crow..
