I purchased a Catch Can on Ebay but it did not come with instructions. My question is, Where should the PCV valve go? Should it be between the crankcase and the catch can OR between the catch can and intake?
Thanks

Tell him quick before his valve disappears like some of us...
Should be getting my AMW can anytime now. Crank line to top of can....bottom line to Intake.
Think I should by a PCV valve and put it in line to the Crank..

Howie you are in the early stages of PCV intoxication. Vett2dy4 has a 2001 you have a 2004 two different system configurations. I don't think it should matter where the PCV is installed relative to the catch can. Before or after will depend on the location of PCV on the motor. I think keeping catch can in a secure and accessible location for service would be my top priority. Howie you don't need to buy a PCV but you do need to get your car ready in order to guide me around Willow on Sunday, you already missed last Saturday.

I'm sure you guys already know this as to your expertise in PCV Valves, but actually there IS a location that is most effective with the PCV system. The PCV valve has about a 3" wire connected to it. This wire has a small clip on the end. That clip is attached the the long threaded stud on the top of the block right next to the intake. The reason its secured there is NOT just for stability reasons, but for condensation. According to GM, that wire aids in the reduction of condensation in the PCV system. It also help in very cold climates.

I have a 2004 and I don't have a PCV valve that I can find on the motor (and I've followed the service manual pics... nada). Is that normal? Did they change something in '04 and not update the manual?

I am not sure what you are saying in your reply. It looks like a excerpt from a GM service bulletin. The original question was where to locate the catch can relative to the PCV. The location of the PCV on the C5 engine varies depending on the year model etc. My opinion would be to mount the catch can in a secure location with easy access for draining etc, before or after the PCV shouldn't matter. If I am wrong on this I stand to be corrected not crucified.
Stupid question, but.....I take it this "catch can" is a must do mod. for the long run of the engine! I just bought my 97 a few weeks ago and I'm trying to learn everything I can as fast as I can!!
Thanks

In my opinion the catch can on a stock C5 is not a must do mod but probably won't hurt anything if installed properly. Will help keep carbon deposits out of your motor. On a high HP/supercharged or turbo motor it becomes more important also if you plan on tracking your car. Welcome aboard.

HEY!!!!!!
I made no rude A$$ comments. I was trying to be humorous and assumed you would reflect on the other thread we were both posting on.
If you read my posts you will see I profess to know nothing. If thats not clear let me say it again. I don't know **** about how engines work. I don't do any work on my car ...... I let professionals do that. I might install this catch can....but will have it checked later.
In the other posts I never questioned your knowledge (read them and you will see). All I ever did was to state flatly that I don't have a valve where you say I should (and I am not alone). I even tried to come up with some plausible expanations in your defense.
This PCV is a curious situation to me. I am trying to learn...and listen/read all comments. If you are offended by anything I said then you have taken it ALL WRONG
If you don't feel like apologizing too me publicly then just send me a box of SEES candy.....

This will apply to your '01, these are pics of my install.
You can see the PCV is located down close to the vally cover, make sure you have it where its going the right direction, incase you don't know its a big one way valve and only works when its pointed the correct dirrection, open goes toward the catch can.

What does a "Catch Can" do for you and advantage is ??

Sorry,
4 days worth of being sick with the flu AND taking care of a 3 year old that is sick with the flu can wear on a persons nerves.
