egine removal
To remove the engine, the torque tube is disconnected from the clutch housing and the engine/clutch is pulled forward. The shop manual method of removing the engine is to lift the car off the engine and front subassembly, but not having a lift, we've done it by pulling the engine out the top. In short, we put a jack under the front end of the tranny (which holds up the torque tube and tranny). I can't remember the exact spot, but there is a support point for this purpose. We put one jack under the pan (with a big wooden block to spread the area out) and another jack under the front crossmember. We essentially slightly lowered both front jacks, pulled the motor/clutch/subassembly forward slightly (which obviously requires lots of interference removal and supporting system disconnections), then put a chain fall on the motor from the top, then unbolted the motor from the subassembly and pulled it out the top, leaving the subassembly sitting on the jack.
As a note, I did have the shop manual and followed it closely.
Hopefully that helps a little.
