Default Installing Borla @ Home? Have Questions

Last time I installed Borla, car almost fell off stands. This time I tried to find a muffler shop that could accomodate my Z06 for a drive on. (No Luck)

So any tips for a home install? I have two jacks a low Profile for vets and a standard home garage jack and 4 jackstands?

How high does the car have to be to pull the exhaust out?

A thought which is the main reason I got A&A's frame savers and rocker rail package is that now I'm very safe doing the drive on racks. I'm certain someone will answer the height question, thought I remember reading that it's fairly high..

Needs to be about 32" from the bottom of the rear fascia to the ground. You only need to have it that high long enough to get the stock mufflers out then you can lower it onto ramps or stands for the install of the new catback. I've done it a couple of times with no problem. You can use a 4x4 on the jack pad if your jack doesn't have the height to get it that high. Here's a link and a few pics of another member's car.

Or if you're like me, and you have no intention of keeping the old exhaust, just jack it up high enough to hack saw the pipe. It really didn't take that long, and it was easier to toss in the garbage. If you go that route, you don't have to jack it up high at all.

Much safer way to install. Just jack high enough to work under it. Definitely put stands under the cross member. Even if you want to reuse the stock exhuast some day, you can always have it rewelded.

if it's a 6 .. the picture above is unnecessary. granted it does need to be up high, i'd guess more like 30" for a 6-spd. I dont think i got mine up any higher than that.

if the front end is lowered, it's more difficult.

but i just jacked the rear, set it on the jackstands and then when the first step was stable put a 4x4 and 2x4 on top the rear jack, jacked the rear the extra bit and removed the cat back quickly.

if you hear something, let down the car onto the jackstands and check to make sure verything is ok and your not about to die.

another method i've heard of is going to a publix (or equiv.) that has a loading ramp for trucks built into the ground. Back her up to the end of the ramp (where they would pull stuff off the truck) and drop the exhaust. I guess with that you'd have to cruise home w/o a catback.

If I'm reading your post correclty you have the Borlas on there now; Right?
If that is the case the car does not need to be very high at all to get them off because they are a two-piece design instead of the one-pice OEM style. 24" max for the Borlas to come off.

No. Still have stock Ti system in place. I installed a Borla on another Z06 I had. That is the one that literally fell off the jack at home.

Just looking for a safer way to do a home install. Borla going on is already assembled. Would like to remove Ti in one piece and install Borla's in one piece. Hopefully, have no alignment issues as they came off another car.
