the little air pressure thingy that makes the sides of the seat stiff... it isnt working anymore... been out for a few months, never got around to asking about it. I assume its wasted permenantly, but I figured I'd ask if there was possibly some cheap fix.

There are small electric motors under each power seat to operate the various controls. On my 98, I can hear a motor running whenever a control is activated, e.g. side bolster, lower lumbar, etc. If you don't hear the motor running, check the fuse panel first. If the fuse is OK, then check the quick-disconnect plug on the outboard seat rail, it may be disconnected. To check that plug you have to remove the seat...which is easy to do by simply unscrewing the 4 securing nuts, two on each seat rail. If you hear a motor running but your lumbar supports don't inflate, there is an air line connector attached to the forward motor under the seat, check that. Again, the seat must come out.

That's about all I can think of.

If you DO hear the motors, then also take the upper seat leather off and check the actual bladders. Mine had become brittle around where the tubes attach and they were leaking air. I had to replace the bladders, but they work perfectly now. Heat takes its toll over time. Reminds me of the water lines on the back of my fridge that got brittle and started leaking.

Happy to help.

To you second post: I don't know for sure...but I think you might have luck getting a replacement bladder, there is only one per seat, by asking for them on the Parts Forum. Some people replace their seats and may be willing to give them away. If you have a sport seat, the center part of the upper seat cushion lifts up from the bottom, kind of like a hatchback, and that's where you will find the bladder.
