Advantages of the ZO6 cam[1] idles well[2] does not require a tune[3] costs less by $150 average dollars.Reverse all that for maybe 10-15 hp. with another cam choice.Answer to original question, theoretically a 7.425 push rod should be used, in practice the 7.40 works fine as the lifter preload will cover that small difference.Milling the heads or changing head gaskets will generally get you back to a 7.40 length push rod, also. Not all push rods are created equal, Thunder's 7.40 are actually 7.415.The ZO6 does it by using a .20 taller valve to offset most of the .30 smaller base circle. There are dozens , if not more f-bodys out there with ZO6 cams and stock length push rods without any problems. So if you have money to burn change the push rods, but then you defeat the purpose of the ZO6 cam, cheap horsepower!

1. More aggressive cams in the 220 to 230 duration range idle very well also.
2. It is true a tune is not a must with the LS6 cam. But you will gain more power and performance if you do get a tune.
3. Depending on the cam selected you will gain more than just 10-15 RWHP over the LS6 cam
Without tuning you'll be lucky to see 15-20hp. Why even bother. If you're going to do it, do it right the first time. Go with something like a 224/224 on a 114, it's a very mellow cam ,and you'll see some decent gains.
vettes4fun, this is a great thread, i'm sure many people don't know about the PR diff and the diff base circle on the 02-04 cams, i had a similar question when i swapped in a 228/232 588/595 on 114lsa into a c6 this past w/e, the stock ls2 cam is the same spec as a 2001 ls6(z06)cam, although the base circle on that one year is the same as the ls1's; thanks dan and lost for the tech info
the next reply is directed toward face

The way I see it you are the one with a attitude. I asked to find out for a friend. Not for you to lecture about doing it right the first time. All I was doing was getting peoples opinion on the push rod size because Scoggins said they where the same, I tought they were wrong and wanted some advise from you guys. Some member helped, but a few were A$$. Thanks to those you helped.
