A friend had his upper radiator hose blow off at the start line for a DE event Saturday. He got half way thru 1st gear and it let go. The hose pulled off the barbed fitting on the radiator. He is running water with water wetter because of rules with another club.
We replaced stock spring clamp with a screw clamp and it happened again. I didn't think it was possible to get the hose off with a screw type clamp.
Could it be something like a broken motor mount allowing the engine to physically pull the hose off, or something building a lot of pressure in the radiator?
Based on what I saw with my recent radiator hose removal, I would think the motor would need to move a lot to pull the hose off and would hit the hood first (you would notice it). I would be more suspicious of a bad hose or excessive pressure. I have used cheap hoses in the past and they leak and don't fit well. I now replace with either GM or Dayco which fit tight without a clamp. Try lowering the fluid level a little bit and loosening the cap, see if the problem re-occurs without any pressure.
