This is for a friend of mine. He has a 04 zo6 with the x-1 cam and a 200 shot. Saturday night while racing his car died on the side of the freeway. He said that the car was runnin fine, it threw a check engine light and then died. Now on start up it pours out white smoke from the exhaust. I checked under the car, no leaks. Checked around heads to see if head gasket was blown, no leaks and they look fine. When car is runnin, it seems to run decent, no pings or ticking or louding banging, normal sounding but white smoke comes pouring out. I am thinking rings are hosed. any other ideas..
if the smoke is white I would say he blew a head gasket, if the car was burning oil due to a broken ring the smoke would be bluish/grey and smell like burning oil.
Check for bubbles in the coolant or excessive pressure, also loss of coolant. If its real bad, I have seen cylinders fill overnight and then you try and compress it the next morning and have an even bigger problem.
Pull the plugs, coolant burning will typically clean the spark plug and it will be obvious which cylinder(s) has the problem.

Sounds like a head gasket. Check for coolant in the oil. Either way you should pull the heads and have a look.
