Transmission Seal Leak???

Transmission Seal Leak???
Hi Folks,
Last weekend I changed the transmission fluid and rear differential fluid on my 2000 vette. When I got started I noticed some greasy black substance on the bottom of the transmission where the tranny and rear differential are bolted together. It wasn't an excessive amount but, it has me concerned that the gasket might be leaking. I cleaned the spot on the tranny and when I get back from Brazil I will check it again to see if the greasy stuff returns. What do you folks think? How difficult would it be to replace seal? Could i do it with ramps and jack stands or would I need a lift? Thanks for the advice.

if it actually is the seal between the tranny and diff that is leaking, I believe that is quite a lengthy job. the rear axle will need to be dropped.
if it is the seal on the side of the diff, it isnt that bad of a fix. i have seen it done here by members a number of times. maybe they can give you some more info. forum member connecticut has fixed the side cover leak at least once
