This is dumb. I have built motors from the groundup in my early days, I'm an Engineer by trade. But I just can't seem to get this connector off. I don't want to break it I lift the gray piece assuming it to be a lock, but the connector just won't come off?
That light gray piece is a lock clip. Slide it out, and then the main connector unclips easily.
If you need a bit more explicit info, here it is: Look at the picture of the connector that you posted and note the black plastic part in the middle of the connector that looks like the block letter "C". Depress the small light grey locking tab in the middle of that "C" with a small screwdriver and slide the entire light grey piece out to the side (toward the wire-side of the connector. Now depress that letter "C", which is the connector release tab and wiggle the connector off. The entire black connector housing comes off, not just the small grey block that the wires pass through. Hope it helps.
