Default C5 performance (from a priorc4 guy : )

Well, I'm joining you guys soon enough..but I need some help. My 92 Supercharged vette (412 rwhp dyno'ed) burnt to the ground...and I'm in the process of looking for a replacement right now. I was actually asking about c5's awhile ago, so when the insurance check comes, I know where the money is going. I've read the sticky on all of the problems C5 guys have wit hthe cars, and what to look for when buying one, but I have some questions of my own now

I am really really eyeballing a 2003 Electron Blue aniversary 1sb coupe. I like that car ALOT. now..the fun begins..

Performance wise-I want to make it as good or better than the 92. what's the most "CIVIL" way to do this? ( the 92 was loud and rumbly..which is nice..but I want something a little quieter this time around). I want to get the rwhp to as close to 400 as possible no nos.

As far as mods go..what all should I get to make the car FLAWLESS? (i.e. column lock kit, etc)

I'd love to hear what ou guys come up with. Thanks.

You can get to 400 rwhp without turning a C5 into a ill mannered unreliable toy. A good set of heads and a baby cam will get you close.

My preference is turbos, but admittedly that will pad the bill a bit.

Definitely do the CLB and replace the battery as a preemptive measure.

My prior vette was a stroked 350 with ALL THE GOOD STUFF , including a 225hp direct port nitrous. I never had it dynoed, but I ran a best of 10.97 on 10" slicks, and consistanly ran low 11s. It was a great cruiser, but I would have never gone on any type of long trip. It averaged around 17mpg, and was a "little" uncivilized!
I traded UP to a C5, which I have done only bolt ons with the exception of H/C,TC and gears (see sig) I am running a 150hp nitrous shot on it and am SURE I can get it in the 10s with some traction and pratice.
The difference is I drive this car on weekend trips, vacations, and anywhere else I want, and have no concerns with dependability. It gets 25 mpg at 75mph, and averages around 20 in DD.
I have had 0 issues with the C5 in 1 1/2 years of ownership. I have owned 9 vettes (4 generations) and will rate it as by far the best vette I have ever owned!!

H/C,TC ...silly Q...but what are those? : ) Yeah, I've own a 76, 79, 82, 84, and the melted 92, and while the 82 and the 92 were my favorites, I couldn't help but to hear the stories about people c5's..and now that I'll have the means soon enough, I don't think I can wait any longer ; )

Get a Z06...(2002 and up) and you will be closer to that mark at the RWHP to start. If you don't mind that the roof is fixed in place...I believe that would be the best bang for the buck with the prices these days...plus, 405HP to start with is a mean platform for any power hungry person! A set of long tubes and a free flowing exhaust and a vararam intake and you would be very close to 400 RWHP and not even crack the engine open...

That's what I would do!

YOu can get 400 rear wheel from cam only on c5's. If you want to go big or you can do like a 224 226 cam with some nice heads and put down 425 easy and pleasant to drive. Getting a good tune is crucial FIXED ROOF's car drives stock with a G5x3 and stage 2 ported heads.

H/C - Heads and cam
TC - Torque converter change

They require disasembly to install, so I don't consider them a "bolt on"

Man; all I can say is DRIVE ONE!!! I still had two C4s (mine and my wife's) when I purcased my C5, and I didn't even want to drive my C4 anymore. Sold it soon afterwards (My wife sold her's and bought a C5 within 6 months as well)

What kind of budget and what kind of civility?

I went from a stck LT-4 to the C6. I loved that car but going on long trips is now much more enjoyable. The C5 is a huge improvement and I agree- go with a Z06 and do the intake and headers and your pretty much there. You either pay now or pay later( for mods).

My car idles like a stocker and gets about 30 MPG on the highway with the AC on. It runs and drives with perfect street manners. We took a 7.5 hour cruise to Carlisle and it performed flawlessly. It makes about 390 rwhp and runs high 11's.

My setup is your basic "C5 Tech member" setup.
CNC big valve/spring Heads, Mild Comp Cams 220/224 cam, FLP headersand exhaust, Z06 mufflers, Vararam cold air intake,LS1 Edit tune.
