last week while autocrossing my buddy broke the shift rod at the weld inside the rear bellhousing. after removing the trans and repairing the broken rod I reinstalled it. when I test drove the car the traction control went active as soon as I got 3rd gear and it is remaining active slowing the car as if its running out of fuel. If I shut off the traction control the car drives as normal. I thought that maybe I had forgotten to plug in the sensor on top of the axle but after getting it in the air found everything plugged in. there are no signs of any problem connections at the wheel speed sensors. anyone ever have a similar problem? the car is a 98 6spd vert.
thanks; scott
just talked to my buddy and described the problem- he just laughed and told me this happened to him the first time he put his autocrossing rims/tires on. he runs the 18" rims on the front and the 17" rims on the rear which confuses the system- it senses slip and activates the traction control. he just turns it off whenever he runs his auto-x tires
thanks

Recently when removing the rear brake brackets, I caught the wiring of one of the rear wheel speed sensors with the breaker bar. I thought I pushed the connectors back together OK, but as soon as I started driving I got an error message on the DIC. So, I pushed a little harder, and the error went away. It seems (logically) that the active handling and traction control systems disable themselves if they can't get a wheel speed reading from one or more wheels. Check the connectors to make sure that they are clean and push them back into engagement a little harder.
