Is it just me or does it seem that there have been quite a few posts about people having to replace their Oil Pressure Sensors lately? Could it be because these are getting older and roughly the same age? Or did we all happen to get a bad batch from AC Delco? But then again maybe it has been going on all along and I am only noticing it because of mine recently failing. I tend to think it is an abnormal amount of them going bad and not me overlooking this topic in the past. As a matter of fact if you read alot of the posts within the last week you will see alot of posts about a bad oil sensor switch. I am currently researching this subject and am trying to contact GM (Chevrolet) to see if there is some reason for the mass failings. On the other hand due to this I have learned alot about Sensor switches and about new manufacturers. Texas Instruments has a really nice one (well it's all pretty and polished) that I wish I could find to fit my car. Apart from the looks it does look like a well made part. Anyway, I guess it is just the paranoia from me babying this car when it comes to maintenance.
Also some of you might experience this when and if your sensor happens to fail in that there seems to be some misunderstanding as to the part number. When I was at the parts desk, they looked for the part number in their database and came back with a part that they said would work. Well, we questioned them on this since they had told us on the phone that their were two part numbers. One was a two pin and the other was the three pin. He had given us the wrong one. We asked him if he could look it up by VIN number and that is how he was able to get the right part number. He had to have it delivered from another dealership and it should be in later today. Anyway, what I am trying to say in a long round about way is make sure you order the right part. Maybe we could start a page with a parts number reference for commonly failed items. I know that I went through several searches and came up with a few different part numbers. I will post up the part number as soon as I get it. Let's just hope that I get the right one.
Mine just went bad yesterday. I was driving home on the expressway when i noticed my analog oil pressure gauge pinned @ 80psi... it scared the hell out of me... then i noticed the digital gauge said ~100+ psi . I was hoping it was an electrical problem, and confirmed it was when i had the key on engine off and the gauge still said like somewhere from 40-60 psi. I'm just glad it's a $30 sensor and not my engine

$30.00 part....but is it easily accessible??? I was told $$$$$ in labor to replace!
I too have had my share of problems. When I bought my 98 last year it had a bad sending unit. I had our local Corvette shop replace it at a cost of 180 bucks. It lasted two days. I went back and they replaced the unit. The second one lasted six days. The shop owner stated that it was a common problem with C5's and that they could not diagnose why the sending units failed. Could be an electrical backfeed ...could be a bad sending unit. I have not replaced it yet.

Well, if it's any consolation this problem seems to be happening everywhere. I currently live and work in Heidelberg, Germany; about a week agon I was driving back from a Corvette Club Cruise in my 1999 C5 when all of a sudden my oil gage went south and the warning code popped up on my display saying "Low Engine Oil Pressure 8 psi".
I was able to get my Vette home. I took me until this week to find a authorized GM dealer that could/would work on it. There aren't too many of em here in Germany. Well, yesterday my Vette was picked up and hauled to the local Chevrolet / Corvette / Cadillac dealer here in Mannheim/Heidelberg Germany. Man, you haven’t' lived until you try getting an America car worked on overseas.
Now, the good news is, this dealer "Kroymans Autohaus Mannheim" ~ (for folks in this area) seems to be pretty knowledgeable about C5 and C6 Corvettes. They're a new car dealer and sell new Vettes (C6), Cadillacs, Aston Martins, Jags, HUMMER's and other high $$$$$$$$$$ cars. I’ll know more next week, so stay tuned.
I guess “I feel your pain” seems to be the most appropriate comment I can make at the moment.

My oil pressure sensor just went a few weeks ago as well. (97 C5). Are there any online instructions on replacing the sensor? I know its behind the intake manifold, so I'm going to assume you have to remove it to get to the oil pressure sensor.
If anyone out there who has replaced the oil pressure sensor would respond with the brand they used or where they bought it and how long it has been working maybe we could come up with the most reliable replacement unit. Obviously AC Delco is not the answer.
Mine went out about two weeks ago. I went to my local dealer and they wanted 450 to do the sensor. I ordered the part myself and I'm going to try to do the dirty deed myself. From looking at the top of the motor it looks like almost impossible with the limited space but I'm sure once I take off the intake it will be better.
Un Freakingly believable....this just happened to me this evening. Pegged at 80psi...DIC reading 128psi...
My question is this, is the pressure really this high or is the unit misreading it?
C'mon my brutha, if your OP was that high your dipstick would be stuck in your hood .....It's the sensor. $30, couple cold ones and some patience and you can fix it NP.
