I have an 04 auto. Something is pucked up with the shifting. When the idicator says it is in drive it is in N. When it says it is in 3rd it is in Drive. When it says it is in 2nd, it is really in 3rd. When it says it is in N it is in reverse......... reverse=N, It basicly is (on the indicator) one gear off.
Car runs great.........all 4 gears shift fine. I don't think it is an actual tranny problem, but is something in the linkage or something.
Anyone ever hear of such a thing?
I have had the shift points reset and had a shift kit installed, but I can't imagine taht has anything to do with this problem.
Sounds like the cable needs adjustment at the transmission; there is a clip on the cable end that locks /unlocks the adjustment. The clip is unlocked then the transmission shift arm is moved to the same position that the shifter is then the clip is locked.
I am set to have it looked at Wed. I am sure it is some sort of easy fix, once the tech can GET TO the place that needs the adjustment. I just wonder how much it takes to get to the place with the problem.
Do you have any idea if much has to be removed to get to the linkage?
It acts like it's getting worse. I now have to put the indicator into 2nd gear, for the car to be in drive.
