I have a 2000frc and i need to install a on/off switch for the passanger air bag so i can take my son in the car. I can get a used switch but do i need anything else. Thanks Steve
to use a 2000.5 up switch, you'll need a newer glove box to accomadate the switch and harnesses and on/off indicator lamp,,you would probably have to obtain a used dash harness and splice it in,,
the kit that GM sells with the switch, harnesses, lamp and revised seat belt is a bargin at little over $100

$110 and you don't need to buy a new glove box. I put the airbag kit on my 99' back in 2002. If you can do the column lock bypass, you can do this. Very easy install. I just mounted my switch in the glovebox, and put the airbag warning light underneath the passenger dash.
If you want it to look factory, you can purchase the center console piece. Fitchner should be able to hook you up with that also.
Spend the 100 bucks and get the kit, because you need the new belt also. The belt you have now is designed to "give away" sightly in a crash so the airbag does its job. Do not risk the life of your kid for a few $$$. I have done this mod, and on a 2000 you might have the switch in a different place than the passanger footwell.
As far as a glove box, you can mount the switch in the current box, it looks like stock when you are done, no one will know the difference, and if you really want a stock look, you can get the LED light for the center console with the stock letters "Passanger air bag off".
