The rear differential holds about 1.7 quarts. If you use GM, you put in additive. If you use other aftermarket products, a lot have the additive in it and more is not typically required. I use Amsoil and have had good success with it right out of the bottle, no further additive required.

AMSOIL Severe Gear Extreme Pressure Synthetic 75w90 meets the GM requirements for the differential and is what I use on the track. As mentioned, diff takes just under two quarts. A hand pump like this comes in handy for changing diff and/or tranny fluid: AMSOIL Hand Pump

shockproof has a special additive that makes the oil better(more stable), but is recommended for racing use only. There have been oil analysis done on shockproof and the additive can wear out as early as 500 miles. I guess it would just turn into normal redline synthetic afterwards ..?
