I just did a drain & fill yesterday. Picked up a new filter/gasket and refilled with Dexron VI which is now available from GM. Decided not to "power flush" , old fluid nice and pink. I was only able to put about 4 quarts of new fluid in.

I believe it is about 4 quarts if you drain the fuild and refill.
It is about 5.5 quarts if you do a 'power flush' or a completely empty transmission. You will only be able to add about 4 quarts at first, but once you start the car and allow the transmission to move the fluid through it, you will need to add about another 1.5 quarts.

As an alternative to Mobil 1, I use (and am a forum vendor for) AMSOIL ATF, a Dexron III fluid which meets the requirements for the A4.
