Default Tornado Fuel Saver

Anybody installed one of these on the vette? Does it help? Is it worth $70?

They only work if you install these in conjunction:

http://www.shoplaser.com/index.html

That way everyone will no you are

Don't do it. Just move away from the keyboard slowly and try to forget you ever even looked at these POS's.

A friend of mine put one of those on his F-150...it made a very nice whistle sound when he stepped on the gas! He swore it gave him 25 more miles on a tank of gas...seeing how the F-150 is a brick plowing thru the wind anyway...he was trying different fuel saving ideas to help out....

Try it and report back to us.....

NOW I've seen everything. Anyone putting one of these things on a Vette should be hunted down and then forced to drive a Hyundai for the rest of their life.

Seriously, I just read a report on these things (sorry no link) and the researchers found that they actually lost hp and gas mileage when installing these kind of contraptions. Nothing to be gained here.

EDIT - here it is, from Popular Mechanics:

Yeah, but they gain 20HP when used along with Hood Seal and the TB Bypass Mods.

While I agree with what everyone has said, I'll also try to tell you why.

Devices like the "tornado" have been around since the 70s. Even back then they made little difference with the carbureted engines, but at least there was some technical rationale behind it (swirling the fuel/air mixture to get as much fuel droplets as possible to vaporize before entering the combustion chamber).

BUT, since 1985 all Vettes have been port fuel injected (a.k.a. a dry injection system). The throttle body and intake manifold of these systems has no fuel mixture at all, just air. The fuel is injected into the airstream immediately before getting to the intake valve.

Therefore, anything that modifies the air at the throttle body (like the Tornado) is just moving air around, and providing a restriction in the process. It can't improve anything in this kind of system, unless there's some more esoteric physics that I don't know of.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

Ranks up there with those TB velocity stack inserts by Vararam...(though I guess okay if you don't port your TB).

BTW, another 'great idea' was the 'swirling' TB spacer (Vortex?) that was being touted last year, but it just changes the harmonics in the intake by increasing the length behind the throttle plate.

I can't believe these things are still around. They might have worked some what for non fuel injected engines back in the day but not with modern engines. Nothing but snake oil.

I figure if they would increase h.p. and fuel mileage the big three would have started using them a long time ago.

Don't believe all these negative posts. Your car will definetely be faster after installing the Tornado. The reason is because your wallet will be lighter, by about $70. And you do know that less weight is the same as more horsepower!

and he should be thankful for that. Hyundais are very nice cars for the price. At least it doesnt creek like my c5 DOnt waste a cent on a tornado, there has been testing done on all these in popular mechanics.

I have watched the "Two Guys Garage" TV show some over the years. I about puked last week when "SAM", who always seemed to be a straight shooter, does a commercial about this friggin Tornado, what a hump. Stands there with swirliing water in a glass enclosure. I'll never watch it again.
You know the guy knows it is crap, and there he is hawking voodoo. What a friggin hump. I will not watch it anymore, once you start pumping crap like the Tornado you have no boundaries. I hope Tornado paid him BIG money for his integrity.
