Default Harmonic Balancer..

This is my first LS1... before this i've owned several ford 5.0 engines....

For the last 3 days my car was making a horrible screeching noise, so i took off the belts, checked all the pullies... everything was fine so i replaced the belts which solved my problems...... while doing this i noticed that my harmonic balancer seems to move a lot.

Is the harmonic balancer suppose to move as much as mine does? On my old fords it was hardly visible... on my new C5 is seems to move a lot when the engine is running....

The engine is very smooth, and has no vibrations however.

Just wondering if its normal or not.

By move do you mean "wobble". If it is starting to wobble, there may be problems down the road as they have been known to let go after a while.

NONE!
Either the elastomer is failing or the bolt has come loose, get it repaired immediately.
And pin the crank while it's being repaired to prevent another failure down the road.

Don't take this point lightly. I lost a motor at the 2004 SCCA National Championship Runoffs when my harmonic balancer bolt came off. Once you pull the balancer off, the press fit isn't tight enough and the bolt can't hold it on. I found this out the hard way. After the fact, I found out that many SCCA T1 teams put red locktite on the bolt though it isn't called for in the tech manual. Pinning it is the best solution in my opinion.
