On my way home lastnight the check engine light came on. I was less than a minute from home so I decided to finish the drive. Before I got home, the light went off. I checked all the fluids, they were fine. Everything seems ok, any suggestions?
The car was running as normal. I checked the gauges, they were fine. I did just get gas, the cap was as snug as it always is... There were no codes displayed. I'm stumped.. I will mention that there is a mild ticking as i press the gas. Is this normal for the Z? The more I press the gas, the louder it gets.
If nothing was displayed on the DIC, you'll need to go in and check for codes. The thread link above has good info on checking for codes if you've never done it before. I don't do it often and always have to look it up and print it out. I don't know about the ticking... was it there before the check engine light came on?
I went to the link, did as it said. I have 1 code in PCM, IPC, and in HVAC. I pressed the reset button on those 3 and the PCM and IPC went to having no code while the HVAC then stated that it had 2 codes. I will also note that the check engine light did not appear when I started the car.
Yes, the ticking noise was goiong on before the engine light came on.
Can you post the actual codes for the more experienced people here to check out? If you didn't write them down, check it often to see if they come back and post them here. Hopefully it was a one time thing...
Sorry, I'm not sure I understand what your asking. I held down the options, then pressed the fuel 4 times. Then I waited for all the codes to scroll by. Then I hit the options for manual search and found that the... wait, maybe this is what you are asking..
10-PCM 1 Codes
60-IPC 1 Codes
99-HVAC 1 Codes
This is all I found/know how to do. I then hit the reset (now that I think about it I'm not sure why I did it) and the 10-PCM and the 60-IPC went to No Codes. But, the 99-HVAC went to 2 Codes. I tried to reset this, but it wans not resetting.
sorry - that thread has a simple version and a LONG version (look for SoulDad570's reply, 4th reply to that thread). The long one is what you need. Once you are in and "manual diagnostics" is displayed do this:
"Once the IPC has displayed all 11 modules, the system goes into the manual mode, which allows selection of each module, using combinations of DIC buttons. The manual mode can also be entered at any time during the automatic sequence by pressing any button except "E/M". Once the IPC displays "manual diagnostics", you may select a particular module by pressing the options button to go forward or the "trip" button to go back. Once a system is selected and a DTC is displayed, if more than one are present; press "gages" To move forward or "fuel" to go back. To exit the diagnostic mode at any time, press E/M". If you want to erase or "clear" codes, press "reset". Clearing a code does not repair a problem. You are simply erasing the evidence of it in the module's memory."
each "code" has a unique number - B0332 is an example. The thread above has a listing of all (most?) codes and a description, ie B0332 Outside Air Temp sensor Short to GND. The H (history) or C (current) following the code, B0332 H, for example tells it's not a current code.
