Default Headlight Motor Malfunction

I recently replaced the plastic gear and rubber bumper on my 2000 C5 and the headlight worked fine. Now all of a sudden the headlight is not functioning again. Its sounds like the teeth of the brass gear is not connecting to the motor mechanism to lift the headlight because the motor runs about 5 seconds longer than the light that is functioning properly without the light ever lifting. When I took the motor apart today I noticed the rubber bumper had a slight cut in one of the indentions the motor slides in to. Could this be causing the connection problem? Also, before I turned the lights on after taking the motor apart, I lifted the light manually and it worked fine. Where can I buy a new rubber bumper without having to buy the gear? What else could be causing this? Thank you in advance.
