500 RPM idle?

My car idles at 500 RPM cold. Is this weird? Is this indicatice of a problem? Everything seems to work fine. This has always been the case, to the best of my knowledge. One of my co-workers commented on it today. He has a C5 and said that his idle is higher.

If it makes any difference, my car is a stock 2003 A4 coupe with 48,000 miles on the clock. Thanks.

Cool. Thanks very much for the link. Any ideas why my idle would be off? As I mentioned, it is completely stock. I have not screwed with it in any way.

fwiw, i think mine idles @ perhaps 550. bub

If it runs ok, I would suspect the accuracy of the tachometer is off a little, although immediately upon startup it should idle faster for the first few minutes...other factors than can effect idle are a/c on or off, in gear or not. for the record mine idles at 550 in gear with a/c on....
