Now that the temps up here in Toronto are dropping fast, I've started using the heater in my ZO6(for the first time). The warmth pours out of it beauty, but the a/c light is on all the time. It doesn't matter whether its in auto or manual, or the actual temp setting. I can definitely hear the a/c compressor engaging. It should kick in during front winndow defogging, but not all the time right? The only time the a/c shuts off is when the outside temps drop below freezing. WTF? I'm packing her away in a few weeks, but it still makes me cranky knowing there's something f'up with it. It burns a ****load of gas like this to boot. What do you guys think?
Mine does it too. Have to push mode, to get it where it is just heat, not defroster. Took a couple of times of doing it, otherwise auto would come back on and the a/c light would follow. My wife's '97 STS has the auto climate control and it never turns on the defroster unless you manually turn it on. I was hoping the vettes would be the same, but apparently it's not.
If the defroster symbol shows in the mode display, then the A/C will come on and you can't turn it off. Press the mode button until the defrost symbol goes away;
On my 99 coupe when I select mode manually to the floor and turn the temp. cooler, I noticed it turns the compressor on. I then turn it off by just hitting the A/C button. Now of course in Auto mode, Defrost, or Defrost/floor the compressor kicks on and the A/C button lights. I have tried turning it off and the light flashes and then comes back on. I think this is normal operation but I have only had my Corvette for about a month. Jim
I played with it again this morning, and even when the defrost symbol is not on, the a/c is. In fact, I can boil it down even more...if I am using the ventilation system in any way, shape or form, and the outside temp is above freezing, then the a/c is on. If I try and turn it off, it just flashes. Who wants to bet that there's some kind of $900 module somewhere that's to blame? I miss the old-school slider controls cars used to have.
Some of the modules will continue to malfunction if there is a DTC code set in the DIC! Pull up all of the codes and see if the HVAC system has DTC codes. If they do, clear them and see if that corrects the issue!
If that doesnt fix it, disconnect the battery for a few minutes and then try it.

I clerared the lot and it didn't make any difference. I then disconnected the battery (something's sure drawing a lot of current when you hook it back up!) and let it sit for about 20min. No difference. What do you think? Your advice is much appreciated.
My understanding was that unless the temperature drops below a certain number, the A/C will run with the heat in order to remove the humidity from the air at the same time the heat is running.

My 02Z does the same thing in AUTO. I don't like it either. The last thing I want on a cold day is A/C blowing to "remove humidity".
