MMS = Morgan Motorsports. Used to be a very reputable shop, but come to think of it, I haven't heard anything about them in quite a while.

I did a search on ls1tech, and found this thread:

If that's correct, then it looks like this is the site for the new company:

Mike used a generic CNC program that netted decent numbers . . . average all in all. A couple different variations of his stage 2 heads were used regularly, the biggest difference was the core head stock [LS1 or LS6], and whether the heads were shaved or not . . . end result, either a "high compression" or "regular compression" set of heads. Depending upon when the car was put together and how many miles are on the motor, you could end up with a very solid motor, or one with a few . . . . quirks. I've had a few issues, but have had reasonably good luck. IIRC, Mike got out of the business for a variety of reasons.

My biggest recommendation, is to listen for excessive valvetrain noise -- it beats pulling the valve covers off and checking clearances, especially on shaved heads.

i don't think these heads were shaved. i have the heads on my new motor( ls2 402) and i am not sure i am getting enough flow threw the heads. i am thinking about changing them and getting new heads i just want to make sure that i will be getting better flowing head then what i already have. just don't want to change out heads and find out later that the mms heads are better.

thanks

knowing what castings were used as a core will help . . . I know the flow numbers for a few MMS heads based on the research that I did before taking the car to them. Depending, you'll either get ~ 30-40cfm on the top end, or get 0 . . . wildly enough, I did see that big of a swing between LS1 and LS6 heads from them.

I would be concerned with valve springs. I have MMS stage-2 zo6 heads on my car. I purchased them around Nov. 2002 they had REV dual springs on them. I would classify the heads as mild CNC ported and polished, stock valve size. Most heads are milled, my heads were not at my request.
as you probably know the REV springs from that time do not last long.
I have seen postings of failed springs with 3000 miles. I broke one at 12000 miles.
hope this helps

Mine snapped at 8k . . . inner spring saved the day from the extra 30 seconds that the car ran. To MMS's credit, there were a bunch more problems w/ the springs . . . . but that's a different story. Check the valves for wear, but do pay attention to the springs.

I had his early stage IIIx 5.3L heads. These heads where actually hand ported before he started to use the generic CNC program. They where pretty good heads. Broke a spring though with only 7000 miles. Inner spring saved my butt from a lot of damage.....

My springs already broke about a month after buying the car And yes they where the revs.
Thanks

I've had my MMS Stage IIx heads on since 2000. No spring problems (Erson springs used then). I don't have flow numbers but considering I am using a baby cam (218/218, 114 LSA, .561" lift) the heads must flow pretty well to get 413/390 rw sae.
